Squirrels in the chimney is a very common occurance. Often times squirrels will try to make a nest in the fireplace to have their young. If you don't have a cap sometimes squirrels on the roof will simply fall down the firepace flue.Squirrels are very good climbers, but most always cannot scale the sleek clay flue to get back out.


Your options are:
A) Open the damper and try to let the squirrel out (usually results in a squirrel tearing up the house for hours, rarely making it out the wide open front door) as shown in the pics above.
and
B) Have us come out and remove the squirrel from the fireplace by hand.
